Organization Description:

MANNA opened its doors in 1990 when seven members of the First Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia began delivering meals to their neighbors dying of AIDS. MANNA’s founders fulfilled the need with nourishment – giving love and community to those who needed it most. As knowledge of utilizing food as medicine deepened, MANNA’s program evolved into “medically-tailored” meals created in its in-house kitchen and incorporated nutrition counseling by registered dietitians to help clients independently manage their diets once they are strong enough to transition off the program. After recognizing the widespread need for its services, MANNA began serving anyone at nutritional risk due to serious illness in 2006 and now serves clients with more than 85 different diagnoses.
